Black Friday has come and gone and the crazy deals of Cyber Monday have expired. Arguably the two most important days in the world of holiday shopping. But as we watched How the Grinch Stole Christmas last night, we agree with little Cindy Lou Who, “Everybody seems to kerbabbled, Isn’t this just a little superfluous?”
Don’t get us wrong, these deals are very helpful for a girl on a budget checking everyone off the list. In our opinion, #GivingTuesay might be our favorite day to kick off the Season of Giving, not just gifting.
Here are a few ideas to give back!
1.Salvation Angle Tree
While you’re tracking down then hottest new color in slime, stop by the Angel Tree in the mall. Grab a tag, pick up the gift and bring it back to the tree! The Salvation Army will get these gifts to families in time for Santa! Tree locations are posted on your local Salvation Army website!
2. Buy a Bag
1 in 8 Americans struggle with hunger and grocery stores are making it easy for us to help with a family’s holiday meal this Christmas. Most stores are prepping holiday meals ingredients all bundled up in a shopping bag. An easy add on at check out when you forget your eggs.
3. Adopt- a - Family
Sign up to adopt a family who is financially affected by healthcare bills. Deadline to sign up is December 1st to get gifts distributed to children’s hospitals for Christmas.
4. Donate Christmas Tree
Warm a family’s living room this year by donating a Christmas Tree and a few of the trimmings. This is such a great idea to team up with your friends or enroll your office to give! Turn your holiday pot-potluck into a ornament making party. Home-made ornament, and a Christmas tree delivered will make a family’s holiday very merry and bright!
5. Ask your local Church
A lot of these programs are designed for families who have been registered. But there are a lot of family’s who have big needs in unconventional ways. The best resource to find these needs is through your local church. Pastors have a pulse on what is going on in your neighborhood and might can suggest a way to give that is outside the box!
We have a special suggestion for this one! Our sweet friend Ali, has a sever case of endometriosis which is traveling up from her uterus and into her thoracic cavity. Because of this, She is already at less than 40% of expected lung function and at risk of lung collapse. Only a handful of woman have had the surgery she needs—and there are just two doctors in the US who currently perform this surgery.
Neither takes insurance.
Please consider supporting Ali's GoFundMe so she can receive this surgery as soon as possible and return home to her husband and baby.
The Grinch could not have said it better, “Maybe Christmas doesn’t come from a store…. Maybe Christmas means a bit more”
